The Defender of the America’s Cup and the five Challenger teams: INEOS Britannia, Alinghi Red Bull Racing, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli, NYYC American Magic and Orient Express Racing Team will all be fielding strong sailor line-ups and will keen to signal their intentions for the America’s Cup.
Racing will take place on Friday 15th, Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th September 2023 from 1530 – 1730 hrs with practice racing on Thursday 14th. Activities in the Race Village will open from 11.30am and continue until 8.00pm each day of the event. For those wishing to come and watch the races in person, the event is completely FREE and there is no need to buy tickets. For those not able to attend in person, races will be streamed online on the official America’s Cup website, YouTube and on TV.
Hosted by the Club Nàutic Vilanova, the first Preliminary Regatta is based around the entire port with the centrepiece being the Race Village located in Plaça del Port that will include the main stage with live presenters (Catalan, Spanish and English), jumbo viewing screens, exhibits from sponsors and partners, a maritime exhibition, Official America’s Cup Merchandising Store and a gastronomy area with stalls serving food and drink. In addition, there will be three more large viewing screens on the promenade and the main beach, near the existing chiringuitas, for fans to relax and watch the boats racing in front of them and close up action on the giant screens. The team bases will be set up towards the entrance to the port itself whilst the La Daurada complex of restaurants, beach club and nightclub will provide hospitality for the event. The race area will be close to shore and easily viewable completely FREE along the Platja de Ribes Roges beachfront.
The preliminary event in Vilanova i la Geltru is completely FREE for visitors with ample waterfront areas to watch the racing and enjoy the spectacle. The Race Village will open at 11am daily and run through to 8pm with food and beverage stations, live screens of the racing between 3-5.30pm plus event and team activations onsite.
There will be no ticketing arrangements and we encourage everyone to come and soak in the unique atmosphere of world-class America’s Cup racing that promises to be fast, furious and very close.
Having witnessed the racing live, don’t forget to take a stroll through the Race Village to watch sailor presentations from the main stages as well as food, drink, sponsor and team activities on a daily basis. The Race Villages are also FREE to all.
For those unable to attend the America’s Cup races in person and see the action just off the waterfront, don’t worry!
The America’s Cup races will be live-streamed across the official America’s Cup website as well as available to watch on YouTube in most territories.
The America’s Cup Social Media channels on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter will also be fully activated and updated throughout the racing with a mix of multi-media, and daily race reports will be available on the America’s Cup website after racing.
Hospitality
For the first Preliminary Regatta in Vilanova i La Geltrú, America’s Cup Events will not make any VIP Hospitality packages available.
VIP packages will become available for the 37th America’s Cup in Barcelona between August–October 2024, and we expect to announce details of those packages in September 2023.
Sign up for the newsletter to be the first to know when these packages become available.
Racing will be conducted in the world’s newest foiling class, the AC40 and all boats will be sailed in one design mode and equally matched. Racing starts with two days of fleet racing where all the six teams will line up on the start line together – which promises to be a fantastic spectacle, fast, furious and desperately close. After up to eight fleet races, the top two teams will progress to the winner-takes-all final match race to decide the ultimate winner of the event. The Vilanova regatta will be the first time teams have raced against each other. Lessons will be learned ahead of the second Preliminary Regatta in Jeddah from 30th November through the 3rd December 2023.
