Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: My PMG holiday order finally arrived! I also bought a few things from Dior and Chanel’s holiday collections.

Weekend plans: I’m volunteering later today at the rescue to help intake a pregnant mama and a mama with week-old newborns. Tomorrow, I’m planning on doing some photographing/swatching of new things that came in this past week.

Do you do anything for Halloween? No, we are the un-fun house that goes dark, lol! It’s like there are just enough trick or treaters to make it difficult to do much beyond handing out candy yet not enough to keep one fully engaged doing just that. Winnie also barks a lot at the doorbell these days!

This week's doggo photo/video...

Please keep discussion on-topic, and if you have general feedback, a product review request, an off-topic question, or need technical support, please contact us!

Please help us streamline the comments' section and be more efficient: double-check the post above for more basic information like pricing, availability, and so on to make sure your question wasn't answered already. We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Haul: Not much. I hunted down and purchased an old Dior quint that was a LE release from holiday 2018. It includes a deep brown shade that I suspect will be my perfect neutral brown but it hasn’t arrived yet. I also picked up the Keranique hair care system to see if I can slow the rate of hair loss that I am experiencing. I used 5 bottles of Vegamour without seeing any change. I am trying not to go on Minoxidil but may have to resort to it if I want to have any hair left by this time next year. Still debating between the Tom Ford holiday release and the Chanel. Awaiting reviews here on the blog.

Weekend plans: I have a young man coming to do some work on my house. He had painted it in July and when painting had removed some damaged Hardy Board which is a cement board that is used in construction in forested areas as it resists burning. Anyway, he had planned to come back and replace them and then got busy and I think just forgot about it. He was suppose to start working on my front porch and my back deck but over-extended himself so that won’t get done until spring. I contacted him recently to tell him that it needed to be finished before we are too far into winter as it will damage the inside wall and my brand new, expensive flooring. He told me he would be here this weekend to do it but so far haven’t seen him.

Halloween: Needless to say, living out in the woods does not lend itself to celebrating or even decorating for Halloween. The few neighbors that I have are either already gone for winter, are leaving imminently or are grandparents and don’t have children to worry about the holiday. We don’t even have enough local businesses to have a community “main” street Halloween celebration. We have two gas stations, one little grocery, three bars, a motel and about 6 churches. I am sure the little elementary school will do something but I am not aware what exactly. I do sort of miss seeing all the little kids dressed up in the costumes. It was my favorite part of the holiday when I lived in the city. They were always so adorable. I loved getting Aislinn dressed up and taking her out in our neighborhood in Sacramento. We would also take her to my parents mobile home park where she knew everyone and I can remember her very first Halloween where she was dressed as Barney. She was just walking well enough to not have to carry her around. Because she knew everyone, when they would open the door, she would say the usual, “Trick or treat,” but she was already in their houses and headed to the candy bowl. Hard to believe that she is old enough now to celebrate Halloween by going with a group of friends to a corn maze, drinking apple cider alcoholic drinks and generally just having fun. She also went to Disneyland for their dress up day about two weeks ago where she and her group of friends all dressed up as their favorite Disney princess.

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Ensley Reign Harvest Moon palette!!! SO BEAUTIFUL!
Weekend plans: Nothing, I am preparing for major surgery and on a pre-op diet that zaps my energy.
Do you do anything for Halloween? Usually I do at least go to a party or two, but not this year since I’ll be having surgery the day before Halloween.

Deborah S. Avatar

I hadn’t heard of Ensley so went to look at the palette. What a beauty. I would have been all over that if I were even 10 or 15 years younger. I noticed it comes with a pretty steep price tag but if they are good quality and in those shades, looks like it would be worth it.
Good luck on your upcoming surgery. I am sure you will do great.

So adorable!

Recent Purchases: I’m doing great with my makeup no-buy, but my fragrance obsession is over-the-top. I bought a full bottle of Diptyque Tam Dao EDT, and ordered a bunch of 1ml decants of fragrances I’ve been curious about: Zoologist Bee, Xerjoff Lira, Escentric Molecule 01, and several others.

Weekend Plans: Recovering from a minor medical procedure.

Do you do anything for Halloween? Decorations and watching scary movies!

Seeing those delightful raccoon puppies just brings a huge smile to my face! And dear little mittens looks like she’s healed up very nicely. Also wonderful to see!

Purchases/rediscoveries: Well, I actually wore a full face of makeup Monday and yesterday when I saw my PCP, so I suppose that I “rediscovered” makeup period, LOL.

Weekend plans: Yesterday kicked my butt in so many ways! The good news? No signs of a stroke or anything wrong with my carotids! Two not so great things are: my Doc is referring me to a Neurologist for answers. Might be MS or something along those lines. My previous PCP suspected that or lupus induced brain inflammation.
The second? I received my 2nd Shingles vaccine and the flu shot, proceeded to leave the medical building and hit up Sephora for shade matches at my old stomping grounds SFS. After that, I really wanted a Cinnabon because I haven’t had one in several years. Got back over to the medical center, called transportation, waited and waited. By the time I got home, I was hungry (as were 2 confused kitties!) and so exhausted. Today I woke up SHIVERING and felt so cold, but when I touched my forehead, I was BURNING UP! Been taking Tylenol extra strength and don’t even feel like doing anything but sleeping. This is awful. My guess is that it’s either the flu shot, or getting both at one time, or all of the above, plus being out much longer than expected.
Of note: because Fenty pulled their hydrating formula, the sales people only had 260 in the matte version for shade reference. Turns out, that shade is fairly difficult to get dead-on matches, but Lancome Teint Idole Care & Glow shades 320 is pretty good. The two of Giorgio Armani Power Silk, she didn’t label! (different young lady). My weekend has been tossed out the window between everything, mostly the shots and me thinking that I could still do like 3½ years ago.

Do you do anything for Halloween? Nope!

Deborah S. Avatar

Oh no Nancy, I hope whatever it is passes quickly. I have to make an appointment and get my flu shot. Seeing your post reminded me and I am going to get another COVID booster. I probably should have done all of this a while ago as I am going to be in an arena with a few thousand people for the Queen concert in Denver. Too late now to have decent immunity. I may wear a mask, as least part of the time. My Doctor had recommended waiting to get the flu shot until later so that effect would be later and more in line with the worse of the flu outbreak. She said that they expect a bad year with it this year so even though you are suffering now, it is likely going to save you later. I am glad that you got out to go to Sephora. There is nothing like a little retail therapy to make you feel better, even if you don’t buy anything. Keep taking anti-inflammatories and hopefully you are feeling better today.

Mittens and Rocket are just adorable and thank you so much for the photos and video. They certainly seem very happy and healthy, thanks to you and Shaun.

Recent Purchases: My order of Givenchy’s lipstick and Shiseido’s serum came through this week and I love the lipstick – a very vibrant red shade. Some of Bobbi Brown’s lip shine lipsticks were half priced – I was opting for Desert Sun, but realised it was probably similar to half the shades I already have, so I ended up choosing Supernova. At $29 it was a steal.

Weekend Plans: Just a lot of catching up to do house cleaning wise, grocery shopping and probably a country drive on Sunday afternoon.
The weather here has been up and down – really quite warm/hot during the week and now back to cooler weather.

Celebrate Halloween: We don’t really celebrate Halloween, although I think it is a fun tradition. However my grandchildren do with their cousins and I will be looking for some outfits for them – not too scary but fun.

Deborah S. Avatar

Have you used the Shiseido serum for awhile, Genevieve? Do you use other products in their skincare line? I am always looking for new skincare to try. I follow a YT’er who swears by the Lancome skincare line so have thought about trying a few of their products. She is young, like 36 or so, and is a skincare and makeup minimalist. She doesn’t wear sunscreen if she isn’t leaving the house so not sure how much to trust her judgement on skincare. Likely uses it because it feels good rather than actually working! If I am going to pay outrages prices, I want something that works.

Purchases & rediscoveries? I just got the Sephora collection setting spray, and I quite like it!

Weekend plans? Working mostly, starting prep for NaNoWriMo. It starts Nov. 1, so you can’t write til then, but outlines and notes are allowed. I’m actually going to be wringing something more along the lines of non-fiction instead of a novel. (The full acronym is National Novel Writing Month, but writers globally participate.)

Halloween fun? I love spooky season and I celebrate in small ways throughout the month, and tbh Halloween lives in my heart year round. For the last 2 years my husband has played guitar in the band that accompanies a local production of Rocky Horror, so I go see that to show support for him as well!!

Rocket is adorable!

New Purchases: I have a PML SatinAllure lipstick in Crimson Ecstasy and also Estee Lauder Stellar Lip Gloss Holiday Collection

Rediscoveries: I am still loving my Natasha Denona Glam eyeshadow palette

Weekend Plans: Nothing really. I injured my rotator cuff and am resting it.

Halloween Plans: Halloween is my birthday so I am having lunch with some friends.

Deborah S. Avatar

Happy upcoming birthday, Sarah. Rotator cuff injuries are no joke. They can be excruciatingly painful. I had struggled with one for almost a year and only started getting better after I started taking massive doses of anti-inflammatories and started on lite physiotherapy. I was skeptical that PT would help and knew it was going to hurt but persevered through and it actually did help. I was faithful and did the exercises at home and used the bands and had to eat my works when it started getting better. It had gotten to the point where I could not lift my arm at all and could not sleep for the pain. Wish I had started sooner as I wouldn’t have suffered for almost the full year. Every once in awhile now, I feel a twinge or I feel like I have slept wrong and I start to get nervous that it is coming back. Anyway, Crimson Ecstasy sounds wonderful. I am going to check it out. I think anything that pairs those to words together must be good and I like her lipstick formula’s.

Deborah S. Avatar

I just looked at Crimson Ecstasy and it is probably too warm for me to get away with but looks lovely and I think a perfect shade for my daughter. I love it when I find things that I know my daughter will like for her Advent Calendar because in most things our taste is so different.

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: I picked up NARS’s new Under Eye Brightener, Huda Muted Pink lip pencil, and NYX Fortune Cookie Butter Gloss this week and Le Labo’s City Exclusive sample pack a couple weeks ago. I love all of it. So far the under eye brightener is a standout for being effective, natural looking, and crease resistant.

Weekend plans: I’m a cook and tonight is my Friday.

Do you do anything for Halloween? I didn’t last year, but I’m planning to go to karaoke with some coworkers this year.
